Epilepsy, one of the most frequent neurological diseases, is defined by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) as “the enduring predisposition to suffer epileptic seizures” (Fisher et al., 2014).

The burden of epilepsy remains a public health issue worldwide, particularly in developing countries, where 90% of people with epilepsy (PWE) live. These subjects are often misdiagnosed or left untreated, due to economical or educational deficiencies.

Drug resistance is found in 30% of PWE. This condition is associated with significant medical and psychiatric comorbidities, thus affecting the patient's social, family and work environment.
